Temples to Visit

Kanchipuram

Kanchipuram is a rural industrial spot and world famouse Kanchipuram Silk is produced from this pleasant rural town. 75% of the population here working with 'Jari' and making handmade Kanchipuram saree.

Kanchi Kamaskhi Amman Temple

The annual car festival on the 9th lunar day in February –March dedicated to Godess Parvathi is the main occasion in this temple. The golden gopuram at center of the temple is marvelous and fabulously carved wooden car kept near the temple is also a good vision.

Kailasanatha

This temple has a long history from ancient 7nth century, started construction in the period of Pallava King, Nayasimha and finished by his son, King Varman III. The temple is dedicated to Siva and now temple is run by Archaeology Department of Tamilnadu. The tourists only allowed till inner sanctum.

Sri Ekambarnathar Temple

Kanchpuram is also a city of ancient temples and this is the largest among them, nine hectares of architectural wonder dedicated to Siva. The construction period was in the period of Vijayananagar Empire, Krishna Devaraja, but the construction started very early at the time of Pallava Kings. Cholas later done extension works on it.
